About
Our goal is to ulimatively create a library of GPS funtionality that
helps application developers in writing high-level GPS applications. We
like to create a set of basic services needed in every GPS enabled
application. This is certainly a generic driver layer for different
GPS-devices, a database layer for storing and managing GPS data as well
as coordinate transformation and projection routines. The license of
this library is the "GNU Lesser Public License" (LGPL).
In a second step we will create an application that visualizes
tracks, waypoints etc. This app will be based on the generic layer and
can manage up- and downloads of tracks to and from the GPS device. 3D
visualizing of tracks, embedding underlying maps, conformability to
vector maps, moving map functionality and a vast variety of track
formats that may be imported are some of the intended key features. A
helpful set of analysing and classifying functions are planned to help
end users keep their tracks organized. The license of this application
will be the "GNU General Public License" (GPL).
Of course this will not happen in one day. Hopefully other developers
will join the project and contribute to the work.
We are aware that there are many other GPS related open source
projects out there, so if you know sth. you think matches this project
let us know.
